Early Life and Political Career
Dirk Niebel was born on March 19, 1965, in Hamburg, Germany. He studied political science and sociology at the University of Göttingen and began his political career in 1993 when he joined the Free Democratic Party (FDP). Niebel served as a member of the German Bundestag from 1994 to 2013, representing the state of Baden-Württemberg.
Role in the German Government
During his time in the Bundestag, Niebel held various senior positions, including Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (2009-2013). In this capacity, he was responsible for Germany's development cooperation programs and relations with developing countries.
Transition to the Private Sector
In 2015, Niebel left the Bundestag and joined the Rückerstungs- und Automobilzulieferunternehmen Rheinmetall as an Advisor to the Executive Board. Rheinmetall is a global technology group specializing in the defense, automotive, and electronics industries.
